Head of Physics for A-level

My name is Reuel and I am a fully qualified Physics teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching in UK schools. I hold a Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics and previously worked in the steel industry, delivering large-scale engineering projects in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and the United States. I’ve taught across a range of school settings and currently work at one of the UK’s top independent schools, ranked in the top 2.5% nationally for Value Added. Alongside my classroom teaching, I’ve also spent the past three years tutoring A-level Physics students, helping them build confidence, refine their technique, and deepen their understanding.

In 2023, 70% of my A-level students achieved an A grade or higher. Many have gone on to study Physics or Engineering at leading universities, including Cambridge, Imperial, and Edinburgh.

I’ve completed examiner training and developed a structured approach to exam technique. Students are taught not just how to answer questions, but how to solve problems. For quantitative tasks, that means decoding what’s being asked, identifying the relevant physics, and recognising the conditions that shape the solution. For written-style responses, I show students how to use formulae to identify the key quantities involved and build precise, well-structured answers that align with the question’s command words.

My approach to teaching Physics is to help students see that equations aren’t just a set of mathematical symbols, but a description of how reality behaves. I emphasise practice over memorisation; understanding comes through repeated use and refinement of ideas. While Physics is often taught in isolated topics, in truth the subject is deeply interconnected. I design problems that revisit earlier concepts in new contexts, helping students build a flexible, unified understanding of the subject.

The lessons I deliver are built around clarity, progression, and problem-solving. Concepts are introduced with clear reasoning, and students are given the space to practise and test their understanding. I use targeted examples to tackle misconceptions and guide students through step-by-step implementation of techniques. A range of questions is always available so that students can work at a level that matches their confidence. As their understanding grows, they take a more active lead in applying ideas independently.

What I enjoy most is seeing students grow in confidence, not just in answering questions, but in how they think and approach the subject as developing physicists. Physics can be challenging, and it’s easy to feel lost without a solid foundation. I aim to create an environment where students can test their ideas, ask questions openly, and develop the clarity and confidence they need to think critically in a subject that rewards depth and persistence.

Head of Maths for A-Level

Sally is a highly experienced Mathematics tutor with over 20 years of teaching expertise, including 17 years at The King’s School, Chester, a leading academically selective independent school. With a genuine passion for the subject, she inspires students by showing the beauty of Maths through its logic, structure, and problem-solving nature.

In addition to her classroom experience, Sally works as an Edexcel examiner, giving her a unique perspective on how exams are marked and what examiners look for. She uses this insight to help students avoid common pitfalls, refine their technique, and maximise their marks.

Her lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to each student’s individual needs, whether that involves tackling challenging concepts, building analytical skills, or developing exam confidence. With a calm and encouraging approach, Sally creates an environment where students feel supported to progress and thrive. She is committed to helping learners not only achieve but often surpass their academic goals.

Head of Biology for A-level

I am an experienced Biology teacher with a proven track record of teaching in state, independent, and international schools. Over the course of my career, I have held the position of Head of Biology at a highly successful state school, where I was responsible for driving excellent academic outcomes and fostering a passion for the subject among students. Additionally, I have worked as a troubleshooter for underperforming international students, helping them overcome academic challenges and significantly improve their results.I hold a degree in Biochemistry and a PGCE from the University of Bristol (2004). My strong academic background, combined with extensive teaching experience, allows me to break down complex concepts into clear, concise explanations that students can easily understand. As an experienced examiner, I focus heavily on exam technique, teaching students how to structure answers effectively, master mark schemes, and approach questions with confidence.

My teaching philosophy centres on building understanding, confidence, and exam readiness. I adapt my lessons to suit the individual needs of each learner, whether they are aiming for top grades or working to strengthen their foundation. Over the years, I have helped countless students unlock their potential in Biology, with many going on to achieve outstanding results and secure places at top universities.
